Clayworkx Studio: Lorel and John Sterling of Heffley Creek (near Sun Peaks) specialize in Raku.
  • The unusual colours, patterns and metallic finishes result from the Raku firing. When the glaze has melted, pieces are removed red-hot from the kiln with tongs and placed in a bed of combustible material.
  • Resulting flame and smoke cause glazes to luster or crackle as they harden and this means that no two pieces are alike.
  • Raku is a low-fired porous pottery, best for dried arrangements unless treated with a clay pot sealer.
